SUMMARY:Intro to low-cost funerals\, death shrouding\, rites and rituals
DESCRIPTION:We’re so excited to be working with @the_downs_crematorium and @dagmara.rudkin from @lunaarts_org to bring you this event!\nThis April\, we’ll be talking about how to keep a funeral low(er) cost\, whilst still being beautiful and respectful. Andrea from Downs Crematorium will show us how to make a beautiful floral arrangement or tribute\, using supermarket-bought flowers. We’ll have Dagmara’s beautiful\, handmade shrouds as well as simple\, plain calico ones. Ioonah Woods and Mary DeLiso from Brighton Death Collective will be demonstrating how a “Blessing the Body” ritual is done\, and you’ll have an opportunity to try out different ways of using shrouds to wrap a body (we have some lovely\, willing volunteers who have kindly said they are happy for us to wrap them up like a burrito!). \nThis is a size-inclusive\, disabled-friendly event\, and we’ll be talking about and showing how to shroud a larger body. Our shroud trays have been made by @wovenfarewell and our larger tray can accommodate a person who is up to 200cm/78 inch tall\, with space up to 90cm/35inch wide. \nIntro to Low-Cost Funerals\, Death Shrouding\, Rites and Rituals \nSaturday April 25th 2026\n10am – 1pm\nMain Chapel\, Downs Crematorium\, Bear Road Entrance \nFree Entry\, No booking required\, just turn up.\nPlease arrive by 10am. SUMMARY:Getting All Your Ducks In A Row
DESCRIPTION:To book on\, visit the eventbrite page here. \nPlan for tomorrow\, live for today! Over the course of six online sessions\, we’ll work through the My Future Care Matters Handbook. \n\n\n\n\nThe My Future Care Handbook is designed to encourage you to think about and make decisions around your future care and end-of-life\, much earlier than tends to be the case. It can be challenging to think about these things when what we all really want to do is concentrate on living the best life we can\, right now. \nWe feel that beginning this conversation now is a gift to give our future selves and our family and friends who may be called upon to speak for us in the future if we’re no longer able to make decision independently. For example\, if we develop a condition such as dementia\, we may live for several years during which time we are likely to depend on others to make decisions for us. \n\n\n\n\nMarion from Brass Bathtub\, supported by Mary from Brighton Death Collective\, will use some creative prompts to help open discussion around various sections of the My Future Care Matters Handbook. Both Marion and Marion have completed the training provided by the My Future Care Matters team and are experienced in group facilitation around choice in End of Life Care\, grief and bereavement. \nOver the course of 6 sessions\, we’ll work together to think about choice in End of Life Care\, planning and provision for our wellbeing as we age.\nThis course is suitable for anyone over the age of 18 and will be held in a gentle\, safe and supportive way. \n\n\n\n\nBefore the course\, you’ll be sent your own\, hard copy of the handbook to keep and complete. You will also receive an email with the Zoom link for the sessions\, links to the My Future Care Matters online profile page\, as well as other resources as necessary. \n\n\n\n\nThe sessions will start at 6.30pm and finish at 8pm UK time . \n\n\n\n\nYou will be invited to spend some time looking at and/or considering things in the handbook between sessions\, but there is no pressure to complete sections unless you want to and are comfortable to do so. \n\n\n\n\nThis event is organised as a collaboration between Brass Bathtub and Brighton Death Collective. Brass Bathtub is an arts company that works creatively with themes of death\, dying\, bereavevent and grief. \nBrighton Death Collective is an LGBTQIA+\, peer-led\, death-positive group\, providing creative groups for grieving folk\, and workshops around choice in end of life care. \n\n\n
